A Summer Day Keeping Pittsburgh Cool – Life as an HVAC Tech
Morning Brief – 6:30 AM
The day starts early at J. A. Sauer Heating & Air Conditioning. As I pull into our service center, the summer sun is already promising another scorcher in Pittsburgh. After grabbing my morning coffee, I join my fellow technicians for our daily briefing, where we review the day’s service calls and emergency requests.
First Call – 8:00 AM
My first stop is in the South Hills, where a family’s AC unit decided to quit during the worst possible time. These emergency calls are becoming more frequent as Pittsburgh faces increasingly warm summers. After a thorough inspection, I discover the culprit: a failing capacitor. It’s a common issue, but one that requires immediate attention.
What We Typically Handle:
- Emergency AC repairs
- Routine maintenance checks
- System installations
- Energy efficiency consultations
- Air quality assessments
Afternoon Rush – 2:00 PM
After lunch, I head to Shadyside for a scheduled maintenance check. Being proactive with regular maintenance visits helps our customers avoid those dreaded emergency calls. I take pride in explaining to homeowners how their systems work and sharing tips for optimal performance.
End of Day – 5:30 PM
As I complete my final service call in the North Hills, I can’t help but feel satisfied knowing another group of Pittsburgh residents will sleep comfortably tonight. Working in HVAC may not be glamorous, but keeping families comfortable during Pittsburgh’s temperature extremes makes it all worthwhile.
Before heading home, I complete my service reports and prep my truck for tomorrow. Another day of keeping Pittsburgh cool comes to an end, but I know tomorrow will bring new challenges and opportunities to help our community stay comfortable.
